Get Tribes working under Windows Vista or Windows 7
So I went to run Tribes a few nights ago for some good ol’ fashioned running around. 1. The game won’t run under Vista or Windows 7 and my mouse won’t work and 2. Once I got it up and running the master servers are predictably AWOL.. So what’s a girl to do?
A little quick research revealed the secret!
First off, go here to Tribes One and download the fixed exe for version 1.11 or version 1.3. Put the patched .exe into your Tribes folder, Your mouse will now work. A working mouse is vital in our modern society.
If you don’t have patch 1.3, you may want to grab it here. It’s backwards compatible with 1.11, but 1.3 servers are less cheatable… Which was one of the things that really killed Tribes for me. (Looking at you, DOPPER!)
Second off, remove all your master servers from the network settings and follow the directions here.
Thirdly, log into a game and curse when you realize that the majority of the servers are running Renegades or similar stupid mods. Swear, then play anyway.
If you haven’t played Tribes, you’ve missed out on one of the most amazing games ever made. Tribes was a bit of a revolution back in the day, due to the fact that it was a straight multi player only shooter, one of the first of it’s kind. And it was amazing. You can download the full versions of Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 for free these days, so what have you got to loose?
