I'm now
completely convinced that the people that make games are not
the God like providers of entertainment we have always thought
them to be.
For the
sake of my professional position with Teamplay I wont mention
any names in the following articles, nor will I point my heat
seeking finger at anyone in particular but all you loyal game
junkies out there will beable to relate Im sure.
This
is a call to the players to help stop the distribution of
DAMAGED GOODS.
How many
new games have you lost sleep over, waiting for their release
date which has been delayed yet again another year ? How many
games have you sworn you would give your first born, your
left nut, your earthly kingdom, to own and play? How many
of these games meet your expectations? How many don't require
a patch to become playable ?
Granted
some of them are really good, Tribes for one, there was a
killer game. Not only did it work out of the box but was improved
on with every update. Not because it needed improving but
because the Dev team found ways to make it better, or to stop
a cheat.
This
Im afraid is no longer the norm in the industry. Game companies
seem to be putting less and less importance on publishing
a complete, working and bug free product. Now its all about
how fast we can pump them out, how can we capitalize? This
my friends is sad indeed.
I still
have a couple of the "HOTTEST" releases that I am
unable to Finnish due to bugs, the games have not been finished
yet you drop over $50 to purchase them. This is illresponsible.
Game
companies promote the purchase of their product and to stop
people from pirating, my friends I tell you that perhaps Hacking
and illegal distribution of games would not be as big a problem
if the person using the pirated software wasn't doing so to
ensure that it works before they buy it. This of course is
only a theory.
So with
all that said Im asking two things. To the people making the
games, take your time, Finnish the damned thing before you
release it. I know we await the games with anger at the delays,
we devour every promotional movie, screenshot and review of
your upcoming release. However we as gamers don't mind waiting
for a product that can be played OUT OF THE FREAKING BOX.
When I open my new games this Christmas, the last thing I
want to have to do is update my versions inorder to beable
to play it. I don't want to dl a 30 mb file, I don't want
to have to see that this great game Ive waited for cant be
finished until ver 2.2.
To the
gamers I say this. Complain, I know you don't wanna piss off
the people that feed your need. I know that you all are quiet
and prefer not to cause a scene, however, until game companies
get the message that the consumer will not stand for them
releasing a shotty product, they will continue to do so.
Please
note this is not the rule for all companies, some have provided
us with games for years that just plain work, and, entertain
the hell out of us at the same time. TO these companies and
you know who you are CONGRADS. To those that don't <insert
daiKatana Joke here> Get on the ball and give us something
we can play.
Send
comments bad or good to me, I don't hide from confrontation
and if you feel strongly on this issue send me emails, I will
forward them to those that SHOULD care about what their customers
are saying.
Peace
Skotos
